The Dutch Handicart Foundation

History

The Handicart Foundation was established in 1986 with the aim of enabling golfers with a temporary or permanent mobility impairment to continue playing golf through the use of a buggy, known as a Handicart. Cardholders can use a Handicart for a fee of €8 per round instead of the regular commercial rate of €30.

Through donations, gifts, legacies and other contributions, the foundation raises the funds required to purchase Handicarts and place them at 115 golf clubs throughout the Netherlands. In addition, the Handicart Foundation has agreements with 49 courses where no foundation carts are stationed.

This system remains unique in the world and is available only in the Netherlands. At present, there are approximately 680 Handicarts and around 20,000 golfers hold a user card. At De Pan, six Handicarts are available.

Reservation handicart

Reservation of a Handicart:

  • A Handicart can be reserved with the caddiemaster up to one week in advance.
  • Guests (with a valid user card) have the same reservation rights as members of De Pan.
  • Golfers with a mobility impairment (holding a user card) have priority over able-bodied players.
  • For occasional exchanges with other clubs or for competitions, Handicarts may be reserved further in advance (upon request via the Club Consul).
